The Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM) authorised Bitvavo B.V. as a crypto-asset service provider on 26 June 2025. The ESMA register lists three services: custody, operation of a trading platform, and transfers. ESMA lists every other EEA state as a host state. The AFM’s own crypto register, dated 13 October 2026, records the same authorisation under Article 63 of MiCA with AFM number 41000010.
Before MiCA, Bitvavo registered with De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB) on 11 November 2020. That registration covered anti-money laundering and sanctions supervision only. CoinDesk reported in June 2025 that Bitvavo also held national registrations in France, Austria, Italy and Spain. The DNB public register also shows a payment institution authorisation for Bitvavo from 30 June 2026.
Bitvavo’s supported-countries page, edited on 21 September 2026, lists 24 countries. Croatia, Cyprus, Greece, Iceland and Liechtenstein do not appear on it, although the passport covers them. Bitvavo restored full services for existing Hungarian users and reopened sign-ups from 7 September 2026. It cited Hungary’s Act XXXVIII of 2026, which removed the conflicting national rules.
Bitvavo offers products beyond its three MiCA services. Its help centre describes Auto Earn, which combines staking and lending, a 30-day fixed staking product, and margin trading with leverage of up to five times. Lending runs through a separate company, Bitvavo Custody B.V.
On 13 October 2026 Bitvavo posted updated terms that take effect on 12 November 2026. They add liquid staking and stablecoin lending. Bitvavo states in those terms that lending is not regulated and falls outside MiCA protection. Users should read which product sits under which entity before they use it.
