Luno MiCA status in detail

Luno does not hold a verified MiCA CASP licence. Luno, an FCA-registered exchange in the Digital Currency Group, left Europe in 2026 to focus on Africa and South-East Asia. It switched off deposits and buying on 1 June 2026, ended external crypto transfers on 29 June 2026, ended selling and euro withdrawals on 31 August 2026, and closed the affected accounts on 1 September 2026. Luno does not appear on the ESMA CASP register.

Practical effect: Luno has no verified CASP authorisation. Check the contracting entity and any separate permissions before you rely on MiCA conduct, safeguarding or complaint rights.

If you hold funds on Luno

  1. Read Luno’s latest notice for your country. It sets any account restrictions and withdrawal deadlines.
  2. Move assets to a wallet you control or to a MiCA-licensed exchange. Send a small test transfer first and check the network.
  3. Keep statements, transaction IDs and the date of each withdrawal.
  4. If a withdrawal fails, write to support and report the firm to your national regulator. The MiCA warning list shows whether a regulator has already flagged it. Read when an exchange can freeze your funds.

Can I still use Luno from the EU?

MiCA does not itself make account holding illegal. National and product rules can still apply. Since 1 July 2026, an in-scope provider generally needs an Article 63 authorisation or an eligible Article 60 notification route. Luno can apply location restrictions or close user accounts.

Is money on Luno protected under MiCA?
